The Wedding of Mrs & Mrs Brookman at Hever Castle

MR&MRS letters behind wedding tables with flower arrangements

We recently provided illuminated letters for the beautiful wedding of Alyce and Chris, who were married at Hever Castle in Kent on 17th June. The 13thcentury castle has a rich history that was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, and it makes the perfect elegant venue for a fairy-tale wedding. Once the happy couple returned from their honeymoon, we interviewed newly-wed Alyce to find out more about her big day.

What time of the year did you get married?

“We got married on 17th June and it was one of the hottest days of the year in the UK. We were very lucky as the weather was lovely with plenty of beautiful sunshine.”

Please tell us your story.

“Me and Chris met at university where we very good friends, but when I was 19 Chris left the UK to move to Dubai. It was then when I was 20 that I moved to Dubai to be with Chris and we started our new life together in a new country.”

“The proposal happened on a Tuesday night (which is our date night!) when we went to a restaurant called 101 which is out in the middle of the water with stunning panoramic views of the New Dubai skyline.”

“We left the restaurant and walked over a bridge which looks out over the Marina, where he then got down on one knee and proposed! Afterwards, we went to a bar called Siddartha Lounge, where I was surprised by all of our friends who were there with balloons and champagne!”

What was your inspiration in terms of the style and feel of your wedding?

Alyce and Chris chose our illuminated ‘MR & MRS’ lights to complement their fairytale theme.

How did your wedding reflect your personalities and personal style?

“We wanted a young feel to the wedding as I was 25 and Chris 28. The pink girly theme definitely suited my personality, and Chris was happy with whatever I wanted, so it all worked out well!”

Your advice/tips for couples who are planning a wedding?

“Work together as a team and try not to argue over small things. But even if you do, it doesn’t matter because it is all worth it in the end. It was honestly the best day of our lives, but be prepared that you may need to go over your original budget because things can work out a lot more expensive than you think.”

What made you choose your venue?

“I liked the idea of a princess fairytale wedding and it also had to be able to hold a lot of people as we invited 150 guests. We looked at 8 venues in total wh
en we travelled back to the UK, and when we visited Hever Castle we just knew it would be perfect! We actually booked the venue 2 years before the wedding to ensure we could have it for our big day.”

What’s the best memory of your wedding day?

Also, seeing Chris when I walked down the aisle and realising all our stress, saving and hard work paid off and was worth it in the end.”

Three words to sum up your day?

“Unforgettable, amazing and filled with love.”
