Whether you’re newly engaged and eager to start planning or entering the final countdown to your big day, make sure your wedding goes without a hitch with our essential wedding checklist.

Mission Statement

Before you go rushing ahead into the whirlwind of wedding planning, sit down with your significant other and write down a personal mission statement. Agree on a budget, a timescale and general theme and check back regularly throughout the planning process.

Set the date

Setting the date is the first big step towards walking down the aisle. Some couples choose a date that means something special to them, whereas others may choose a date based on the availability of their dream venue. However you choose your date, it will be one you’ll never forget!

Choose your wedding party

Often one of the hardest decisions is trying to choose who will be supporting you at alter on the big day. Think about who you want to not only share the special day with, but plan it with too! Whether it is your siblings or your oldest friend, remember, the people who will stand by your side on your wedding day will also be the ones planning your stag and hen nights!

Venue

The wedding venue is the first thing you need to book, as the catering, decoration and even the dress can depend on this decision. Make sure you go and view a few locations to work out what you like and what you’re not so keen on. Think about: how will guests get there, will they need to stay the night, do you plan on staying nearby?

Services and suppliers

Once you’ve done your research and made your decisions, be sure to book as soon as possible to avoid the disappointment of your favourite band/hairdresser/photographer not being available on your date. Don’t forget to book the hire of any extra special touches or decoration to make your day unforgettable like our light up letters.

Bridal Shopping

A little tip, if you are having hair and makeup trials, arrange them to coincide with dress shopping so you can get a better idea of the whole look. It’s much easier to get a vision of the final image if you’ve got all the accessories with you.

Wedding party attire

If you are working from a strict colour palette or have opted for a more relaxed, mismatched look for your wedding party, just make sure everyone knows what they are expected to wear so you don’t have any surprises.

Wedding Rings

It may seem like the most obvious wedding essential, but ministers and celebrants have many a tale about couples who realised in the middle of their ceremonies that they didn’t just forget the rings on the day, they forgot to buy them entirely.

Send Invitations

As a general rule, wedding invites should be sent 6-12 weeks before the celebration, but many couples choose to send them a little earlier than this if their venue is further from home to give guests more time to make arrangements.

Book the honeymoon

Wedding planning can be stressful so get your honeymoon all booked up so you can look forward to your first romantic getaway as a married couple. Want to save up some cash before you go on  your celebratory trip as newly weds? Mini-moons are becoming an increasingly popular option.

The final countdown

It’s time to check you’ve not forgotten any wedding essentials. Have the final fittings of your wedding attire, check in with your suppliers, complete your table plan and make sure everyone in your wedding party knows the schedule for the big day. The day before your wedding, everything should be organised, so relax, breathe and get an early night!

And finally, enjoy your wedding day!

Now that 2019 is well underway and we find ourselves heading towards a new, exciting wedding season, we thought it was time to have a look at the top wedding trends for 2019.

Sustainable Celebrations

Eco-friendly, sustainable and no waste weddings are growing in popularity this year, reflecting a social movement to care more for our environment. Soon to be newlyweds are now thinking about how to throw the best celebrations with as little environmental impact as possible by not using single-use plastics, offering reusable straws, having vegan options available or even completely vegan feasts.

Royal Flowers

Last year was a big year for royal weddings and this year we will see this reflected in many weddings with oversized bouquets and arrangements that will make any bride feel like a queen. Intricate flower walls and archways serving as beautiful backgrounds to nuptials are also something to watch out for this wedding season.

Long Lace Sleeves

If you have yet to say the big “yes to the dress” and are still looking for wedding dress inspiration, elegant full sleeved gowns are in almost every designer collection this year. Delicate lace sleeves in unique patterns, including polka dots, are definitely the biggest trend in 2019 wedding dress fashion.

Moody Blues and Hues

The rustic wedding is still something we will see a lot of in 2019 yet we are going to see more daring, dark colours in this style. Deep blues, purples and every shade of grey will be matched with statement florals and lighting, along with luxurious velvets to create breathtakingly romantic weddings. These deeper tones are not only to be found in decoration; bridesmaids wearing dark blue and wine-red gowns will likely be featuring in both summer and winter weddings this year.

Foodie Favours

Personalised edible favours started to become more popular throughout 2018, but 2019 is the year where they come into their own. Miniature jars and bottles personalised with the wedding date and names, containing local produce or a product that reflects the couple are a big trend this year. Artisan olive oils, homemade jams and chutneys, and even local wines and spirits have become popular favours as guests can not only take home a keepsake but also can use and enjoy the tasty gifts after the wedding day.

Dessert Rooms

Over the last few years, couples have been more creative with their dessert options from doughnut walls to cookie stations, and this year many couples are taking it to a whole new level with dessert rooms entirely devoted to sweet treats! Personally, we are loving this idea! If you’re planning a dessert room, you want to make sure your guests will be able to find all the delightful goodies in there, so why not use our light up letters to spell it out and entice your guests inside. We can spell out “Dessert” to guide your guests straight to the sweet stuff while giving you a unique photo op!

MR&MRS letters behind wedding tables with flower arrangements

We recently provided illuminated letters for the beautiful wedding of Alyce and Chris, who were married at Hever Castle in Kent on 17th June. The 13thcentury castle has a rich history that was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, and it makes the perfect elegant venue for a fairy-tale wedding. Once the happy couple returned from their honeymoon, we interviewed newly-wed Alyce to find out more about her big day.

What time of the year did you get married?

“We got married on 17th June and it was one of the hottest days of the year in the UK. We were very lucky as the weather was lovely with plenty of beautiful sunshine.”

Please tell us your story.

“Me and Chris met at university where we very good friends, but when I was 19 Chris left the UK to move to Dubai. It was then when I was 20 that I moved to Dubai to be with Chris and we started our new life together in a new country.”

“The proposal happened on a Tuesday night (which is our date night!) when we went to a restaurant called 101 which is out in the middle of the water with stunning panoramic views of the New Dubai skyline.”

“We left the restaurant and walked over a bridge which looks out over the Marina, where he then got down on one knee and proposed! Afterwards, we went to a bar called Siddartha Lounge, where I was surprised by all of our friends who were there with balloons and champagne!”

What was your inspiration in terms of the style and feel of your wedding?

bride and father in front of mr and mrs light up sign“I wanted everything very girly and princess! I originally went for duck egg blue as the colour scheme, but this changed a year into planning the wedding and in the end we went for pink, lilac and some blue as well.”

Alyce and Chris chose our illuminated ‘MR & MRS’ lights to complement their fairytale theme.

How did your wedding reflect your personalities and personal style?

“We wanted a young feel to the wedding as I was 25 and Chris 28. The pink girly theme definitely suited my personality, and Chris was happy with whatever I wanted, so it all worked out well!”

Your advice/tips for couples who are planning a wedding?

“Work together as a team and try not to argue over small things. But even if you do, it doesn’t matter because it is all worth it in the end. It was honestly the best day of our lives, but be prepared that you may need to go over your original budget because things can work out a lot more expensive than you think.”

What made you choose your venue?

“I liked the idea of a princess fairytale wedding and it also had to be able to hold a lot of people as we invited 150 guests. We looked at 8 venues in total wh
en we travelled back to the UK, and when we visited Hever Castle we just knew it would be perfect! We actually booked the venue 2 years before the wedding to ensure we could have it for our big day.”

What’s the best memory of your wedding day?

bride and groom dancing in from of light up sign“The first dance was magical, and having everyone altogether is a rare occasion, so being with all our family and friends in one place meant the world to us as we still live in Dubai. Also, seeing Chris when I walked down the aisle and realising all our stress, saving and hard work paid off and was worth it in the end.”

Three words to sum up your day?

“Unforgettable, amazing and filled with love.”

Planning your wedding can be exciting, frustrating, thrilling and amazing! It’s a real whirlwind of emotions and we know that brides to be can often find it hard to co-ordinate all of the different elements that are needed to create their perfect day. That’s why it can be really important to take a step back and ask yourself some key questions about how you want your big day to be. These questions can help to focus your thoughts and will give you some structure so that you can start to plan your wedding with confidence. So pour yourself a glass of wine, get a pen and notebook and ask yourself the following 5 questions…

What theme should I have?
Setting a theme is a vital element in helping your event planning as it informs every part of your big day – from the venue you hold it at to the style of the dress you wear and even the food! This is a great question as you can let your imagination soar and it can help you to create a wedding that is really unique to yourself and your partner. Use wedding magazines, blogs and sites such as Pinterest to help inspire you and to get an idea of popular wedding themes. From a barn wedding to Hollywood glamour the sky really is the limit!

How many people should I invite?
Whilst you may not want to write the definitive guest list yet it is really important to work out a rough idea of the size of your wedding, as this will affect not only the size of venue that you need to choose but it will also help you to decide on your budget. Do you want a small intimate wedding with only close family and friends or are you looking for a large party to celebrate your big day with as many people as possible?

Where do I want to hold my wedding?
Once you know your theme and the numbers you will be catering for then it’s time to look for your venue. Visiting different venues can be time consuming so it’s worthwhile making a shortlist before you book your visits. Make sure that the venue works well with your theme and that you can accommodate the number of people that you want to have there to celebrate with you.

What is the budget?
Although it would be lovely to have unlimited funds most brides have to stick to a budget so it’s vital to work out how much money you have to spend. With so many wonderful wedding ideas out there it can be very tempting to go over-budget so why not create a budget spreadsheet to help you understand how much money you have and work out what areas of your big day you want to allocate it to.

Where can I hire a love sign for my wedding?
Of course it wouldn’t be a wedding without our giant illuminated signs. Our light-up letters are really popular with brides and we see many people asking on social media where they can hire large light up letters for their celebration. The answer of course is Wedding Letter Hire! We can provide words such as LOVE or MR & MRS or we can create unique words and initials just for you. Love 1

More eagle-eyed readers may have spotted the girl in our ‘LOVE‘ images somewhere else recently – on the X-Factor! The stunning model in our wedding letter hire images is no other than the obviously multi-talented 24-year old Chloe Jasmine Whichello.

If you haven’t seen her, or heard her very distinct singing talents yet, then please take a look. This is Chloe Jasmine singing Ella Fitzgerald’s Black Coffee in the week one auditions.

We will most definitely be cheering on Chloe Jasmine during her X-Factor journey and are delighted that her many talents are being spotted, not only by the X-Factor crew, but by the crowd too – she is described as posh and eloquent, which sounds about right to us! We’re feeling a bit like a proud parent to be honest.

Not only do we adore Chole Jasmine’s very bluesy voice, but we also love her look. We agree that it does look like she’s just stepped out of a 1940s jazz club, and we need to ask her where she got that hat.

But what did the judges think? Louis Walsh liked her Marilyn vibe, and thought she was “fabulous”, and Cheryl described her as “mesmerising”, while Mel B said she had a unique voice. Best of all, even big bad Simon Cowell liked her, describing her as unusual and a bit kooky but with a very cool authentic voice, and who can argue with that? Chloe Jasmine got four definite yesses from the judges, with Simon saying “You’re one I’m going to remember!”

At Wedding Letter Hire, we love Chloe Jasmine. She came and said hello to us when we were exhibiting recently at the Brides Show. She really is as genuinely lovely as she comes across on the show, and very down-to-earth. She has been a complete pro for us, and best of all, she looks awesome against our light-up wedding letters.

Jo of Wedding Letter Hire and Rio Lounge says, “I had a real laugh with her when we met her at the Brides Show. She liked our mobile bar at my stand and was knocking back our drink and then we became FB friends.” Sounds good to me!

Chloe Jasmine is up against some stiff competition as is always the case on the X-Factor. But whether she wins or not, the exposure she will get from a show of such a high profile can’t fail to get her on the path to fame. There has been ten years of X-Factor now and what is true is that winning is no guarantee of long-term success. Those that have been successful are the ones that have something a bit different and capture the imagination of the public – after all, it’s the public who will be buying their records not the judges. We already know that Chloe Jasmine has that little something that will appeal to so many people and that she has a fantastic chance of stardom.

Chloe Jasmine described her dream as “to be happy every day for the rest of my life” which is a pretty good dream to have, and we wish Chloe Jasmine all the best for the X-Factor and in the future, whatever it may hold for her.

Love lights with bride in front

It’s been a busy week for Wedding Letter Hire in a number of ways. Firstly, we have launched our fabulous new website – bringing you a selection of gorgeous light up letters designed to make your big day sparkle. We hope that you love it!

We’ve also been exhibiting our marvellous light up letters at Brides The Show. Brides The Show started running in October 2014 and was organised by the UK’s biggest selling magazine Brides. Of course it was a massive success in the wedding world, so we were really excited to get a stand at the March show.

The social media world was buzzing with excitement the week beforehand with suppliers and brides alike telling twitter how thrilled they were about going. One of the things that we love about the show is that it is really interactive with loads of demonstrations, advice from experts and a chance for brides to ask the questions that really matter to them. We were going to be showing off our light up letters for weddings!

Turning ordinary venues into something amazing

It was amazing starting the show with a huge blank canvas of a stand – ready for Wedding Letter Hire to work their magic on.  Although some might find it daunting we loved the opportunity of showing what we are all about – turning an ordinary venue into something amazing for your special day. As everyone worked to set up there was a great atmosphere and it was fabulous to catch up with some of our #weddinghour friends who we chat to online every week. We were thrilled with our stand when it was finally finished and felt it was a brilliant way to showcase our lovely marquee letters – which, if you don’t know, are large lighted letters that are the on-trend wedding accessory for 2014.

As the sun rose over Battersea Park on the day of the show we were filled with anticipation. As the brides, grooms, bridesmaids and mothers of the bride started to flow through the door there was a fantastic sense of energy and expectation – everyone was hoping that this would be the day that they found the dress, venue or furniture of their dreams. And, if they were looking to hire light up letters, they had come to the right place!

I think that the thing we enjoyed most at the show was talking to all the lovely visitors. Everyone was so friendly and it was great to hear the imaginative and colourful themes that some of the brides-to-be had in mind for their big day. Everyone had put so much care and thought into their plans, it was a privilege to be able to give them our advice as to how they could really make their celebration shine with our light up love letters.

Beautiful light up letters

At Wedding Letter Hire we are really proud of our beautiful light up letters and we really hoped that everyone would love them as much as we did. They are just so versatile. You can use them to make personalised initials or to make words such as our light up love letters or our Mr & Mrs. sign, the good news is that these big light up letters went down a storm. The brides loved them and we had some fantastic feedback from everyone we chatted to.

We left Brides The Show feeling tired but elated, we had met some inspirational people, and hopefully made some good friends amongst the fabulous brides and wedding suppliers out there. And we loved the fact that everyone was so impressed with our giant marquee letters.

So if you’d love light up letters for your wedding give us a call – or why not have a look at our Pinterest site to find out more about how letters that light up can light up your wedding.
